Music is my greatest passion. I am always on the hunt for a new song to fall in love with. The feelings my favourite songs give me are stronger than any other feelings I’ve experienced. The feeling is like a high, the song a drug. I have become addicted to the high and will forever be searching for another drug to feel that high again. The more I hear a song, the more my tolerance increases, so I need to find more songs to experience new highs. Of course I can return to old favourites and get a taste of the high again but the experience of discovering a new favourite song is truly beautiful. This is an addiction I have no intention of giving up.

The songs that have the biggest impact on me range from alternative rock, with a heavy, in-your-face chorus, to pop songs with huge, emotional hooks. Sad, slow-burning songs with powerful crescendos can hit me in the gut greater than anything while some songs leaning on the heavy and screamo side bring out the metal head in me and can deliver some of the heaviest hitting drops. Each type of song hits me in different ways and entices different reactions and emotions from me.

It’s my dream to share the music that has changed my life with other people. I take pride in my favourite songs as if they were my own, and if I can introduce someone to a song that has a positive impact on their life, I’ve achieved my goal. Speaking of which, here is a song that has changed my life.

Bombay Bicycle Club is an alternative soft rock band from the UK and their song “Come To” was the number one song of 2014 for me. It’s got a slow build, groovy bass and tight drum work, with a wonderfully euphoric climax. I remember sitting outside my house one night four years ago and being introduced to a sensation I’d never experienced as I listened to this song. This is a song I can listen to a million times and still get the feeling I discovered, listening to it four years ago.

It’s songs like this that keep me searching for more that can give me a similar high and I will never stop searching.
